A commercial version of Llama 2, an open-source large language model (LLM) that use artificial intelligence (AI) to produce text, graphics, and code, has been made available by Meta, more commonly known to us as Facebook.

Meta Offers Companies Free Use of Llama 2 Language Model

Under a research licence, the initial version of Llama was accessible to academics and researchers. However,Llama’s model weights were exposed, sparking some controversy and prompting a government investigation. With Llama 2, Meta is putting the past disagreement behind it and advancing with a more potent model that will be more widely applicable than its predecessor and may completely change the LLM landscape.

Nevertheless, is Llama 2 truly open source? Although Meta makes the right points, the Open Source Initiative (OSI), the leading authority on open-source licensing, has not given its approval to the Llama 2 Community Licence Agreement.

What lies within LLaMA?
A transformer-based auto-regressive model of language is called LLaMA. In February, Meta officially described the initial version of Llama as a 65 billion-parameter model capable of performing a wide range of typical generative AI tasks.

Llama 2 has a variety of model sizes, spanning seven, thirteen, and seventy billion parameters. The pre-trained models, according to Meta, were developed using a sizable dataset that was 40% bigger than the one used for Llama 1. Additionally, the context length has been doubled from Llama 1 to two trillion tokens.

Promoted safety measures in Llama 2 by Meta
In Llama 2, safety is just as important as power. First, Llama 2 is pre trained using data that is readily accessible. After then, the model goes through a number of SFT steps (supervised fine-tuning). Then, to provide yet another layer of safety and accountability, Llama 2 gains from a cycle of learning through reinforcement from human feedback (RLHF).

In-depth information on the extensive measures used to help provide safety and prevent potential bias is provided in Meta’s research report on Llama 2.
