Learn how to assign multiple animations to a single character in Unreal Engine for seamless and dynamic character movement.

First, head over to Abode Maximo’s website and either sign up for a new account or log in to your existing one. After logging in, explore the selection of characters available and choose one to download.

Make sure you pick the normal FBX binary format for compatibility with Unreal Engine.

Before downloading animations, set the character’s pose to T-pose and select any three single animations you’d like.

When picking an animation format, choose “with skin” for compatibility reasons and decide on your desired frames per second (fps). Next, launch Unreal Engine and locate your character and animation files.

To avoid any errors, we recommend importing characters separately from their animations. This allows Unreal Engine to generate the necessary skeleton correctly.

Drag your chosen character into Unreal Engine and modify any required import parameters. Make sure to set the skeleton to ‘none’ and click on ‘import all’.

Now, it’s time to import the downloaded animations into your character’s file. Create a new folder in the Content Browser, then add three subfolders within it. Import one animation per folder by clicking and dragging a single animation into each folder. A dialogue box will appear – make sure to enable the desired settings.

When importing an animation, a dialogue box will pop up – select the character you imported previously and enable the animation checkbox before selecting ‘import all.’ And make sure that in default settings, Repeat these steps for each additional animation in separate folders.

Finally, click and drag your chosen character into the workspace. Select the character, then navigate to the right sidebar, where you can choose Animation. From here, select the Animation Asset – your character will display all three animations.
