Learn how to import characters from Mixamo to Unreal Engine, enabling you to enhance your game development endeavors.

To begin with, go to the Adobe Mixamo website and either sign up or sign in if you haven’t already. You can choose any character you like and download it.

Next, select the normal fbx binary format for importing into Unreal Engine. Make sure it’s on t-pose before downloading.

Then, open up the folder containing all of the characters and animations in Unreal Engine. One tip is to import the character separately so that it generates its skeleton etc., in Unreal Engine.

Later, import all of the animations, as sometimes errors can occur when importing them all together, and different skeletons may have to be generated. Select the character and drag it into Unreal Engine.

The FBX import options dialog box will appear. Reset it as the default and ensure that the following are checked: 1) in mesh skeletal and import mesh, and 2) the import content type is in Geometry and skinning weights.

In the vertex override option, be sure to check these two things: preserve the smoothing group and import meshes in bone. Leave the other things set to the default and then check import all.

You can now drag the character into your workspace and see it.
